I kept having these flashes in my mind today while I was trying to read and grade some papers...I believe they were from a dream I had last night. Basically, I was at a Skynyrd show, but all of the members were weird versions of themselves. The singer actually looked a lot like Glen Danzig and Ricky Medlocke(the newer guitar player) had these crazy huge biker chaps on that were way too big for his body. That's about all I can remember... I'm such a redneck.

This shit is crazy. In UCLA's library, a student that didn't have his i.d. on him was asked to leave the library. Apparently, he wasn't moving fast enough for the officers on the scene, and was repeatedly tasered. Here are a couple of links for your enjoyment of watching our country devolve into a fascist state. Last night I had a vivid dream wherein I was getting married to a girl I dated in high school. By the way, I was dressed in a medieval armor suit...very odd. Also, it seemed that all of my ex-girlfriends were brides-maids. Anyway, I came to realize as I was getting ready for my bride to come into the church, that I didn't recall rehearsing for this wedding. I didn't remember agreeing on vows, the church, what religion we were going to be married in or anything. I remembered that she was catholic, and I started freaking out because I once went to a catholic wedding and it was one of the longest and most painful ordeals in my young life. Keep in mind that I'm in a suit of fucking armor... Everyone in the dream seemed unusually happy, though. That was nice, but in retrospect, kinda creepy.

So anyway, the story doesn't end, or anything. So few of my dreams have endings...they just kind of exist and I "have" to figure out what was going to happen. So, it was weird. Just thought I'd share that with anybody that isn't tired of checking my rarely updated blog.

However, at the end of the trailer, there's some cover of "Comfortably Numb" that sounded pretty lame. Why not use the original? If you don't want to read sad, sappy shit about people dying then stop reading. Sorry, I just gotta get it out.

Well, we got a call today about one of my dad's oldest friends, Don. Apparently, he passed away either yesterday or last night. He was found with a needle in his leg. We knew that he'd been battling his addiction for years, but I wasn't sure if he was still using nowadays. I think he started using heroin when his wife divorced him when I was still in middle or high school, can't remember, really. He's been to rehab a couple of times, I think. We tried to visit him and keep in contact with him, but he didn't return phone calls and would only occasionally hang out. My dad stopped calling after a while, because who likes to be in a one-sided relationship?

This is a guy that would run around our old house in Savannah with me on his shoulders when I was 2 or so. I should note that he was 7 feet tall, so this was a thrilling thing. He would also throw me up into the air and let me fall onto the couch...stuff like that. His enormous frame actually broke said couch and throughout my childhood I remember that couch being held up with books on one end.

So, I feel very sad today. I don't know if he chose to end his life, or if it was accidental. I'm also pretty damn angry that he did this to himself. We all have our addictions, though. We just hope that they're not that destructive. I'm just baffled that he could let something take that much of a hold on his life. I mean, it's not like he was some loser with nothing, he had a good job and was able to travel a lot. I suppose the divorce just sent him over the edge, it just took him a long time to fall all the way. Anyway, I'm glad I knew him. He was a nice guy. I have a hard time trying to understand people when stuff like this happens. It's not a movie, not on a screen, he was a real person that knew me longer than just about anybody. It makes me angry that he felt so horrible that he could do this to himself and it also makes me angry that I didn't try to help. Of course, I was just a kid in his eyes, anyway. Maybe it would've helped. But I can't think that way. I can't blame myself for someone else's doing. God damn it. Fuck heroin and all that shit.

In all, I quite enjoyed the All-Star Game the other night. It was a close game with a comeback(albeit the detested AL) in the last inning. Regardless of the winner, it was fun to watch. However, my baseball commentating nemesis Tim McCarver was calling the game and nearly ruined my experience. I think I'm actually thankful that the Braves may not make it to the playoffs this year, just so I won't be forced to listen to this jackass talk. Apparently, other people feel the same.

In other news, I went to see Pirates of the Carribean II yesterday. It was pretty funny and enjoyable. I thought that the special effects on Davey Jones were damn amazing.

I also watched the Matador, with Pierce Brosnan. That movie is hilarious and should be watched by all.

Well, I decided to keep you people up to date on my life.

Yesterday, I had to take my cat to the vet because he got in a fight and apparently didn't do very well. One of his legs has had the hair shaved off of it, and it's pretty cute. I have to force him to stay in the house for a week. This will be difficult. Perhaps this may break his ritual of waking me up at 5:30 in the morning every day to go outside.

My parents should be moving up here in a few weeks if all goes well with closing on a house...

Well, I decided to cut the grass today. After I was done using the string trimmer, I discovered that I needed gas for the lawn mower. So, I went to the gas station to get some. When I got back to my house, my next door neighbor was already cutting my lawn. Keep in mind that I live right by a gas station and the trip took me all of 5-minutes. Anyway, he has one of those fancy riding mowers with the levers, so it didn't take him long.

It's weird. I was kind of put off by it. I mean, I wanted to cut it. Maybe I'm weird like that. I certainly appreciate him doing it for me, but it's kind of like, "What the fuck is he doing cutting my yard?"

So, without anything else to do, I proceeded to clean out an overgrown area that's been bugging me for months.

My neighbor also as these painters over at his house today. It seems that since they finished lunch, they've been playing soccer in his backyard. Maybe it's in their contract that they can do that. It's going on an hour and a half....so, right on, fellas. They know how to keep things in perspective.

I watched the Korean movie "Oldboy" last night. It's pretty damn awesome, however extremely messed up. I suggest you watch it, though.

I also saw "Kingdom of Heaven." It's pretty good. I wouldn't buy it or anything.

Another movie that I'm really excited about seeing is "Slither." It looks to be disgusting, horrifying, and hilarious. Check out this site where you can download a "Brendapet." I wouldn't suggest actually downloading it, but you can do stuff with the sample one on the website. Apparently, in the film, she has become a massive egg for the little monsters that terrorize the po-dunk town, so that's pretty funny. Also, the guy that played Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly and Serenity is in it, and that can't be a bad thing.

I just finished reading Chuck Palahniuk's Choke, as well. It kind of left me empty inside like most of his books, so I guess it was successful.

I'm surprised at how boring my house is without my roommates here. It's only been a day.

So, I just gave blood. It was pretty cool, because they did a new procedure whereby they take double your red blood cells and give back the other stuff. It's pretty damn neat. I was hooked up to a machine for a while. Then, when the plasma and what-not goes back in your body, it's room temperature, so it makes you cold. Then they have to give you a blanket because you're shaking. I look forward to my 2 free songs from the 'ole internet. I also enjoyed the peanut butter cookies and juice.

Sorry about just posting crap about movies lately, but there are a few new trailers that look pretty damn awesome. The first of which is V for Vendetta. This trailer makes the movie seem worth watching, whereas I previously thought it would be pretty shitty. Anyway, hope it's actually good.

The second is a more serious movie about a border patrolman killing a Mexican worker. It's called The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada and it looks great. Tommy Lee Jones is in it, along with Barry Pepper. I've been fans of these two for a while, but never really thought they were that awesome. Maybe this one'll change that. Also, Dwight Yoakam plays the part of the sheriff, and he's always a badass. It even looks like Levon Helm(drummer for The Band) has a small part.

In other news, I played some poker last night after shootin' off some guns with my friends Bunny and RD. I kicked ass for the first 3 hours, then lost all the money I had won on 2 bad beats. Fucking ridiculous. That's all, folks.

Ya'll, I just watched the teaser trailer for the new Superman movie, "Superman Returns." I gotta say, it looks pretty cool and the premise is a good one. Apparently, Superman has been out in space for a few years and comes back to help out us earthlings. It totally disregards the existence of the original II-IV films, so that's cool.

I do have a problem with the actress they chose to play Lois Lane. They've picked Kate Bosworth, of all people. When I first read the name, I recognized it, but couldn't place her face. After looking her up, I realize how this could be...she seems to be completely unremarkable in every way. I've seen her in a couple of roles and she's never come of as interesting at all. Looks pretty boring... Even Margot Kidder was kinda hot in a weird way, and Terri Hatcher certainly was. Hopefully, this will be my only complaint about the film when it comes out. It should be a great movie since Brian Singer is the director and he did a great job with the X-Men films.

Seeing the trailer and hearing the voiceover from the original of Marlon Brando talking to his son, it made me ponder something. If Superman was just a normal person from Krypton, and he had all these super powers, then didn't everybody on his home planet have those same powers? Why didn't they just all fly away from the impending destruction? Or did the planet make them normal, since kryptonite took his powers away? I'm not big into comic books and stuff, and it's been a really long time since I saw the movie, so I'm not sure about this. Feel free to correct me, anyone.

On a completely unrelated note, this website has been in my favorites folder for at least a couple of years. If you don't feel at least a little bit of happiness while looking at these pictures, then you are soulless. Enjoy.

Well, if some people didn't see me Saturday, I looked like this. Apparently, I look "portly" in this shot, according to my dearest mother. Thanks, mom.

Here are some of the things people thought I was dressed up like: Frankenstein(some Indian dude outside the liquor store), "Capeman," Dracula, and Zorro(all from a student worker at work).

I did happen to spot my nemesis, Mr. Huevos McGringo out on the town Saturday night. He claims he was dressed up as me. I have to say that he failed miserably in his attempt. Sorry, ace, but that wig was pretty damn terrible and made you look like the dude from the Counting Crows. A lot of people think it's pretty weird that somebody dressed up as me for Halloween, and I have to agree. It seems to be bordering on obsession, and that's kinda creepy.

Trick or Treaters

I forgot to tell you people about halloween night at our humble abode on the affluent University Dr. It seems that every parent in Athens loads up their van with all the kids they know and come to my street to go trick or treating. I realized this after I had been giving out candy for less than an hour and was already out of the 3 huge bags of stuff that I got in preparation...

One of my friends was on the way over, so I asked him to get a couple of more bags. After going to many stores that were out of candy, he finally bought a couple. When he got to our house, I started giving out candy again. I think it lasted 5-10 minutes. They come in huge waves and they gobble up everything they can get.

Our very last trick or treater was my favorite, though. He runs up just as I was about to save the last little pack of peanut M&Ms for my roommate and yells "I'm the Mean Bean!" And that he was. It was a great costume and deserving of some peanut M&Ms, so he got them. Then he yelled "muchas gracias!" in an awesome southern accent. It was great.

Then I fell asleep in my Harry Potter costume at 9:30. So hardcore.

Well, this weekend was relaxing and frustrating at the same time. Friday, some guys came and cut down a tree in our front yard. Actually, they cut down half of it, I assume that they'll finish the job today. Anyway, apparently one of the limbs fell down on our phone line and knocked it out. So, I've basically been without a phone for a few days and that sucks. It also meant that when my car was blocked in my driveway that I couldn't really get in touch with anybody to pick my sorry ass up on Friday night. Therefore, I spent the night on the couch instead of getting drunk and listening to various styles of music at various venues.

Yesterday, many fun things did occur. I went to see Wedding Crashers with my lady friend and it was by far one of the funniest movies I've seen. Way to go, Vince. You have solidified your place in my psyche as an amazingly funny man.

Afterwards, we went by the new bowling alley next to La Parilla on a whim to see if it was open yet. Surprisingly, it was. Therefore we bowled. However, particularly due to the high price of the lanes, we did not bowl for long. In fact, it was damn near 20 dollars for us to play for half an hour with the shoe rental included. So, if you check this place out, I suggest that you take at least 4 people with you to make it worth it. It's 20 bucks an hour.

The place was pretty damn cool, though. Good tunes and a bar. On Sunday!

Hey ya'll, I know it's been a while since I rapped at ya...

I've recently been somewhat of a shut-in as I have no money and need to stay away from downtown because I know that I'll just buy crap that I don't need. Since I've been home a lot, there has been much rearranging of my room and house. I'm trying to stay as productive as possible while leaving time to bust ass in probably the greatest video game that I have ever played, God of War. Seriously. It's fucking awesome. Play it.

Alright, we started off the tour in Asheville, NC, where we played at a local "community resource center." The show was set up by a friend of ours who lives there now. After hanging out at his house for a while and being amazed by his old-school oven with terms such as "infinite heat" by the knobs and buttons, he took us to the center and then to grab a bite. The restaurant was vegetarian and was infinitely better than that tasteless place everyone loves that goes by the name of The Grit. Also, the wait-staff was nice and the food came out in a matter of minutes. Anyway, it was great and I was fulfilled.

When we showed up at the center, it was decided that we would play last and that the two local bands would play before us. We didn't really want to do that, because the best spot for an out of town act is in the middle, but what are you gonna do? It probably wouldn't have mattered anyway. The first band plays and is surprisingly engaging. They had a drummer, guitar player, a dude playing trumpet and a guy on laptop. Pretty cool. The second band was really crazy and loud. Cool, but not really my bag. The girl "singer" was quite hilarious, however. She was singing through a processor that made her voice sound really deep and fucked up. Did I forget to mention that she was wearing some kind of Mexican wrestling style get-up? Well, she was, mask and all. Strobe lights and a red police light were also involved in the show.

Anyway, the second band played to a full house of all their friends rocking out and what-not. We started to play just a little while later to about 5-6 people. Everybody else was outside. I will admit that it was pretty fucking hot in there, but come on. It's a "suggested donation" show and you kids claim to be all inclusive when you're really not. Anyway, the people that stuck around really liked us and talked to us after the show for a while. Josiah always seemed to bust his finger on the drums at just about every show, by the way. After every show, we noticed more and more blood smeared on his drum heads... After we had packed up our shit, drank a little and what-not, we hit the road for NYC, which will go down as one of the worst drives in history.

So, that's pretty awesome. I've been wondering why the side of the tub was dirty a lot lately. I just assumed that my roommate was really dirty.

I'm very fortunate not to have met the possum's acquaintance as of yet, and I don't think I will. Almost done movin' out! yes!

Man, life on the road is a crazy thing. Showers don't come around so often, so that's pretty awesome. We actually took a show in a truck stop on the way into Cincinatti the other day. That was probably one of the greatest experiences of my life. For real. The place was clean and the ladies that worked there called us "hun." I'm digging hearing in person all of the various accents that people have in our country. It's really interesting.

Anyway, our little tour has been pretty great overall. We have been well recepted and people have bought cds, which is good for extra gas money. I'm sure I'll wrap everything up in a later entry about the whole trip. Right now, we're in St. Louis and just did a radio show that's gonna be played on Saturday. I wish I could actually just do this stuff all the time.

I totally expected to see Martian tripods rising over the landscape when I walked out of the movie theater tonight. Everybody should go see that movie. You know, the one about aliens attacking us and what-not. I'm still pretty tensed up.

The lack of any real musical "score" to speak of was a really nice touch, I think. It seemed to make the film more realistic. Spieldberg is pretty good at making movies. However, there is one problem I have with the film that I will not share if people haven't already seen it. I guess Steven has to have at least one crappy cop-out hollywood-type cliche in everything he does...

I've never understood pre-flusher people. You know, the guy that gets up to the urinal in the bathroom and flushes it before he pees. Is it unsanitary for their urine to mix with other people's urine? Are they afraid that somehow the mixing of the waste in the urinal will make some sort of urine monster child? Or do they just like watching their own bodily waste soil the pure water that is already in the toilet? It is a thrill not to be underestimated, I must say.

So, there's a lot of stuff going on, but you'd never know it by talking to me. It's always been hard for me to truly be excited about something. Instead I'm either anxious, wary, indifferent, or just nervous about upcoming events. Anyway, we have a pretty cool show comin' up and hopefully people'll stick around for us. That would be nice. My lady friend is coming up to visit this weekend, as well. We're also going on tour in a couple of weeks, which should be awesome unless we die a horrible death or get shit stolen from us. We're going to places that I've never been.

Ya'll I've never actually been out of the South. This is really ridiculous, but I feel kinda how I felt when I went to a public school for the first time.

Anyway, the crazy lady in our office is hilarious, even though she isn't trying to be. I really enjoy being a fly on the wall sometimes in here.

The new people at work are pretty cool and soon things will be much better around here...only nine more days.

My bowling game was at a great disadvantage last night because of a lack of alcoholic beverages. Seriously, how can you have a bowling alley that's open 24 hrs and not serve some fucking beer or something. Plus, it's supposed to be near the amazing culinary hotspot La Parilla, which is a very good thing.
